TheBROOSE Museum: FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is TheBROOSE Museum?
TheBROOSE Museum is an online source of information about Texas singer/songwriter/artist Broose Dickinson.

Who are your musical influences?
"I don't have time to be influenced. But if you must know, during my youth I listened to The Bay City Rollers, The Smiths, The Cars, The Beatles, Buddy Holly, Television, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Van Halen, XTC, The Beach Boys, Black Sabbath (with Ronnie James Dio), Freddie Mercury, and some obscure bands like the Kings or 20/20. While I paint I listen to classical music, Antonio Vivaldi, Joseph Hayden, J.S. Bach, and some others."

Who are your art influences?
"Ingres, Cezanne, Thomas Chambers, Rodin, Degas, Schiele, Klimt, David Bates, Gerard Dou, Rubens, Ernest Meissonier..."

What does your music sound like?
"Acoustic lounge music, with pop sensibility, and a pinch of Texas. But I've been known to go off on a tangent or two with a dance tune."

Are you signed?
"In the 1990's I was signed to Carpe Diem Records, a small independent label in Dallas that no longer exists (there's a Carpe Diem record label in Europe now, but there's no affiliation.) I'm not currently signed, perhaps because I love my creative freedom - it's essential to my happiness."

What kind of art do you do?
"Mainly paintings, oil on canvas, done in auto-style. Auto-style means a style all my own. Sometimes I dabble in printmaking with pronto-plates. Occasionally I'll do some digital art mixed with fine art (example - Seven Mediums). I also frequently combine music with visuals, for example - music recorded for a specific painting."

Where are you from?
"I was born in California and raised in Arlington TX, commuted to Ft. Worth TX for high school, lived and performed in the Deep Ellum arts district of Dallas TX for ten years, and now reside in Splendora TX."

Do you have any CD's out?

"No. I have two children, a boy Remi, and a girl Darby, whose mother is Sabrina Cauvet."

"No."

Are you gay?
"No."

Why is your name spelled 'Broose'?
"I started using the alternate spelling in the 1980's when I found out there was another singer named Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden). After receiving some of his royalty checks from ASCAP, it was necessary to change it legally."
